Student injured in Peshawar university Valentine’s Day clash

PESHAWAR: A student was injured in a Valentine’s Day clash between two rival groups at Peshawar University on Friday, DawnNews reported.

The groups fought over whether or not to celebrate the day and the clash led to baton-wielding students ransacking university property, brandishing and firing of weapons and the setting alight of six hostel rooms.
However, rescue and fire brigade reached the university in time to tend the fire and stop it from spreading.
Moreover, the injured student was shifted to the Khyber Teaching Hospital and his condition is reportedly out of danger.
The policemen who had first reached the site of the clash to control the situation also met with severe anger on part of the students who pelted the law-enforcers with stones.
Subsequently, a case was registered against five students at the campus police station and the police had begun its proceedings to carry out arrests.
